Marija Ančić rođena je 1982. u Sarajevu. Diplomirala je na UMAS u Splitu Konzervaciju-restauraciju 2005. i Kiparstvo 2010. Izlagala je na više festivala, skupnih i samostalnih izložbi u Zagrebu, Splitu, Rijeci, Torinu, Beogradu, Mariboru... Finalistica je nagrada Radoslav Putar za 2016, i White Aphroid Award 2018. Članica je HULU, HDLU I HZSU. Živi u Zagrebu.

Marija Ančić was born in Sarajevo in 1982. She obtained a degree in Conservation and Restoration in 2005 and a degree in Sculpture in 2010 at the Arts Academy of the University of Split. Marija has exhibited at several festivals, group and solo exhibitions in Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, Torino, Belgrade, Maribor... She was a finalist of the Radoslav Putar award for 2016 and White Aphroid Award in 2018. She is a member of HULU, HDLU, and HZSU. The artist lives and works in Zagreb.

U svom radu bavim se osobnim temama, tjeskobom, depresijom, identitetom iz ženske/feminističke perspektive. Moja praksa obuhvaća crtež, animaciju, vez i skulpturu/objekt. Crteži animirani u GIF formatu daju mom radu vrijeme i bezvremenost kroz “loop” pretvarajući jednostavnu akciju u trajno stanje. Kroz različite medije provlačim motiv ženske figure u opasnosti, one pate, izdržavaju ili pobjeđuju prijetnju, uz dobru dozu crnog humora i apsurda.

In my work I tackle personal topics, anxiety, depression, identity from a female/feminist perspective. My practice includes drawing, animation, embroidery and sculpture/object. Animated drawing GIFs on a loop add time and timelessness to my work turning simple action into a permanent state. The motif of a female figure is present in different media – they are in danger, they suffer, endure or overcome the threat, with a great deal of gallows humor and absurdity.
