Disati zajedno (mjerenje kozmosa), 2023. / Breathing Together (Measuring the Cosmos), 2023

Imperativ produktivnosti, profitabilnosti i kompetencije u kasnom digitalnom kapitalizmu reguliraju naše životne ritmove i izdržljivost. U komprimiranom vremenu kasnog kapitalizma, potisak vremena postaje gotovo opipljiv i gust. Disati zajedno (mjerenje kozmosa) uvodi dah kao mjeru vremena, usporavanje, ritam korespiracije i zajedništva te stavlja u odnos biotemporalnost i duboko vrijeme.
Breathing Together (Measuring the Cosmos) is an immersive audiovideo installation that explores breathing, biotemporality, and community. It consists of video recordings of the traces of heat from human breaths and the slow disappearance of the fog that remains on the glass. The recorded and combined breaths of sixty people are an attempt to materialize the intangible, the pulsation of life, the flow of air in a complex, fluid circulation. The sound composition follows the rhythm of individual breaths, creating an ambient composition of choral polyphony.
Breathing Together (Measuring the Cosmos) is a communal space where the invisible exchanges, flows, and molecular connections intertwine. The ambient atmosphere of shared breathing indicates the fragility of life, but also the vitality of a co-respiratory space. Due to the position of the light, the dust that fell on the glass during filming became visible, so that the warm imprints of breaths slowly disappear into the deep cosmic space created by dust particles forming various constellations.
The video recordings of breaths were captured during the coronavirus pandemic, when we became aware of the importance and danger of breathing in a shared space. In a situation of isolation and escape from the daily machinery of production, it became clearer on both an individual and collective level that the perception of the flow of time is economically, technologically, and even ideologically conditioned. The imperative of productivity, profitability, and competence in late digital capitalism regulates our life rhythms and endurance. In the compressed time of late capitalism, the push of time becomes almost tangible and dense. Breathing together (Measuring the Cosmos) introduces breath as a measure of time, slowing down, the rhythm of co-respiration and community, and relates biotemporality to deep time.
