The theme of emptiness is one I have long explored, approaching it in various ways. Emptiness as the absence of content, the emptiness that death leaves in the lives of those who remain, the emptiness that persists after us, emptiness as a possibility and a new beginning, or as our inevitable end and death. In the film Evanescence, I examine my own identity through emptiness. Taking death as the only certain future, I try to reflect on how losing a significant person has impacted me, who I am now and who I was in their presence, whether I am their legacy, and what remains behind me. By layering space and erasing my own figure, I highlight the fragility and transience of it all. The remnants of me intersect in the space between the viewer and the source of light. The need to acknowledge my own transience, invisibility, and instability is, in fact, a yearning to find meaning in the remnants of myself, in my artistic work, thinking, and actions.
