Vladimir Novak graduated in sculpture in 2017 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, where from 2022 - he is enrolled in doctoral studies. He continuously participates in the art scene, presenting his works at several group and independent exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. He won the HPB Grand Prix at the 34th Youth Salon and the GKR Award at the XIII. triennal of sculpture. He was the finalist of 2022 Radoslav Putar Award. He is a member of HDLU and HZSU. From 2022 is an external artistic associate of the sculpture department of ALU in Zagreb. He bases his work on questioning the possibilities of media sculpture with an interest in the poetics of space, architecture, design, light and sound in relation to space-media-experience of the observer. By playing with concepts such as body-mass, object-installation, object-sculpture, static-movement, light-shadow, performance-projection, from space to space through iterations of his works, he tries to break the obvious boundaries between them.

kinetička svjetlosna instalacija (inox, staklo, deionizirana voda, crijeva, dvosmjerna pumpa, elektromagnetski ventili, mikrokontroler) / kinetic light installation (stainless steel, glass, deionized water, tubing, bi-directional pump, solenoid valves, microcontroller)
dimenzije promjenjive / dimensions variable
In Visible takes a critical look at the foundations of spatial perception and the possibilities of sculptural media within the context of contemporary technologies, expanding the field of media to its very edge, into an almost or completely imperceptible and intangible spectrum. It focuses on the subtle activation of perceptual apparatuses for (re)cognizing space, context, and a radical purification of the visual ecology of phenomena surrounding us. It begins with the everyday phenomenon of sunlight penetrating the apertures of our built environment, exploring the phenomenology of daylight projections that we encounter daily on the surfaces of spaces, their visibility fluctuating with the time of day and the date. In a visually over-stimulated daily life, through subtle articulation, it aims to change the perception of these phenomena from the “ordinary“ and practically imperceptible in their ephemerality, towards highlighting them as a valuable aesthetic visual experience. By positioning itself between the sun and architectural openings, the installation opens up a dimension of the poetics of the relationship between daylight and space, delving into the moment of light entering the building, whereby the event – entirely conditioned by atmospheric conditions – is articulated into an ephemeral experimental film that is performed live, day by day, changeable and entirely unique. The animated projection invites viewers to silently experience the possibilities of visual narratives at the waterline between glass panels, where a dialogue unfolds between the real projection and the 'false' one, articulated through an intervention in the natural process. In Visible questions the position of the artist and the potential of art in the context of crisis and global climate change, and calls for reflection on ecology within the arts themselves, reacting to the ever-present confection of artistic hyperproduction. Important dimensions of the work are variability, instability, temporality, unpredictability, and complete dependence on atmospheric conditions, which require an unusual approach from the audience in perceiving the artwork. It demands patience, focus from the observer, and a complete shift from the comfortable position of the exhibition visitor, or rather, a willingness to accept the fact that the manifestation of an experience whose main driving force is sunlight may not be possible at the desired moment.
